With the sudden departure of Jackie Hunt as chief executive, Prudential UK & Europe, John Foley, the Prudential group investment director, has been named as her interim successor.
Foley will add the role to his current duties until a permanent successor is announced, Prudential said.
Thanking Hunt for her contribution to the company, Mike Wells, group chief executive, said he was delighted to have "someone with the experience and expertise of John Foley to take the business forward until a permanent successor is appointed."
Foley joined Prudential as deputy group treasurer in 2000, becoming group treasurer in 2001, chief executive, Prudential Capital, in 2007, group chief risk officer in 2010 and group investment director, a new position, in 2013, when he was made responsible for ensuring stronger group oversight of financial investments.
The group had £505bn ($778bn) of assets under management at 30 June 2015.
