Although it makes up a smaller share of insurers' portfolios, real estate has been a hot topic in the last year as question marks were raised on the future of offices and some retail assets.
A panel of insurance investors will discuss these issues at Insurance Asset Risk's Investing in Real Assets conference on the 27 May.
The panel will be moderated by Antonello Aquino, associate managing director at Moody's Investors Service, who told Insurance Asset Risk he will ask panellists how the pandemic, and its social and economic impact, has affected their investment decisions in real estate.
"We will also explore how insurers and asset managers source new asset classes within the real estate sector, the regulatory implication of investing in real estate, together with the political incentive/limitation that comes with investing real estate," he said. "And we will discuss the risk of investing in these assets, which are wide ranging from climate considerations to new safety rules."
Panellists are:
- Andy Rofe, managing director, head of Europe, Invesco Real Estate
- Eleanor Bucks, chief operating officer, Legal & General Capital
- Michael Eakins, chief investment officer, Phoenix Group
- Olafur Margeirsson, senior real estate strategist, Zurich Insurance Company
