Delta Lloyd invests in sustainable shipping loan

26 January 2016

Delta Lloyd Asset Management, part of Dutch insurer Delta Lloyd, has bought a €66m sustainable shipping loan from Anthony Veder Group, a Dutch gas tanker operator.

The loan in question is a 20-year European private placement to finance the building of an LNG (liquefied natural gas) carrier, which uses the boil-off from its cargo to fuel the engines of the vessel.

"LNG-fuelled vessels eliminate the usage of heavy fuel oil, which contributes not only to a reduction of carbon emissions but also to a significant reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions and gives a near 100% reduction of sulphur emissions and particulate matter emissions," according to the announcement.

Jacco Maters, managing director of Delta Lloyd Asset Management, said: "As an investor, Delta Lloyd Asset Management can contribute to a better world by taking into account the impact of its investments on people and the environment. Delta Lloyd's participation in this sustainable shipping loan is a testimony to this commitment."

Banking group ABN Amro arranged the transaction.
