Inspired Villages, a developer and operator of care homes owned by Legal & General (L&G), has begun construction on its first net-zero carbon retirement homes development.
The 200 houses community has a combined gross development value of £120m ($167m). The anticipated completion date is Q1 2023.
L&G has made a commitment that all its future residential developments will be operationally net-zero by 2030.
“There might be things that are already in construction or planning stages that wouldn’t meet those aims, but there is a long-term plan to retroactively fit things that are already in the portfolio as we want our entire residential portfolio to be net-zero,” a spokesperson told Insurance Asset Risk.
Inspired Villages currently operates six later living communities in the UK, with its seventh set to open later this year.
