DWS is this year's Insurance Asset Risk Americas Responsible investor of the year thanks to its ESG advisory team's work over the past year partnering with insurance companies on their respective sustainability and/or climate journeys, including helping them develop reporting and assessment platforms.
The ESG Advisory and Insurance Coverage team's work included assisting with the design of ESG policies that are congruent with the insurer's values; helping the insurer measure and report on the types of factors regulators may require; and providing specialty expertise to help insurers across a range of complex topics associated with sustainability.
DWS also worked on an insurer's behalf to take on those reporting responsibilities, to help report to entities such as the United Nations-Principles of Responsible Investment (UN-PRI) and the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), among others.
Specific examples included working with a global, multinational reinsurance company to install and align their reporting infrastructure to be congruent with UN-PRI reporting standards; designing and implementing the infrastructure necessary to help a large, domestic health insurance company work toward a net-zero goal, supporting a reporting programme aligned with Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI); and working with a global, commercial property and casualty insurance company to examine the impending impact of CA SB253, a requirement to report Scope 3 emissions for any company listed in California doing business in the state and reporting global revenues of $1bn or more, by 2026.
