It is fair to say that Alliance Bernstein, Insurance Asset Risk's responsible investor of 2022, believes being a responsible investor 'starts at home'.
And so, it entered 2022 with $779bn total AuM, and $524bn or two-thirds of total AUM with ESG integrated into the investment process, and about 100 employees working on responsible initiatives.
There was a newly appointed director of corporate responsibility in place, who had articulated the firm's corporate purpose in a statement document after engaging employees, clients and board members, having strengthened its partnership with leading climate scientists of the Columbia Climate School and opening the Climate Change and Investment Academy curriculum to clients.
One judge said: "being able to share the knowledge of ESG through the purpose-built school with Columbia is a real plus for AB and will greatly help their clients and the industry".
Last year, the asset manager joined the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative, Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change, One Planet Sovereign Wealth Funds Initiative and was accepted as a signatory to the UK Stewardship Code for a second year running. It also became a member of Sustainable Trading – all following numerous similar commitments AB made in 2021.
